Our Story

We are a women-led homegrown Indian brand creating playfully designed products that celebrate creativity, handcrafted aristanship & life's little pleasures

Our Founders

We are Vivita & Avneet - the co-founders of The Wishing Chair; our dream incarnate that began as a little store Delhi back in 2012, and has since evolved into a pan-Indian, design-led retail brand by women, for women. A lot has changed since we first began, but our values and who we are hasn’t.

At The Wishing Chair design studio, we embrace a maximalist design approach, juxtaposing colour, patterns and our Indian heritage to create unique products.

" The Wishing Chair is a company that celebrates the creative woman. We are handcrafted and designed in India for women by women. Our aim is to make your life beautiful, so we create high quality homeware & gifts with style and thoughtfulness. All pieces of our homeware are handmade with love, care, and tradition from start to finish!Whether it's through our ceramics, wall art or decor, we want to give you the opportunity to explore and play with your style every day. "

What We Believe In

Cruelty Free

As animal lovers - we made firm decisions to minimize animal-based products (we don't work with leather as a material) in our offering and have maintained that our Mad Teapot cafes serve only vegetarian fare. Though we aren’t perfect, we are striving to be as environmentally-led as possible and take steps towards sustainable practises everyday through our packaging, curation and design.

Handmade and

We hand paint all our designs; from our ceramics to our metal-works, which are handcrafted and painted in small batches, and produced by karigars across India.

Real and

Everything we do starts with real women, and we champion that: we listen to our customers and constantly evolve to serve you better. We expect every interaction with The Wishing Chair to be friendly and welcoming and that our products are priced for their value, not their “exclusivity”.

Small is

Ours is a self-funded business with a lot of help from our friends and family. We aim to be responsible and sustainable in the long term. We hold our values sacred, and would never compromise on them in pursuit of mindless growth. In a perfect world, we would like both – so let’s see what the future holds!

Why Wishing Chair

Our name is derived from one of our favourite Enid Blyton books we read as kids: The Adventures of The Wishing Chair.

The eponymous chair was magical and could take you wished. We loved the trans-portative nature of this idea, & that our spaces should stir a certain nostalgic longing to that dreamy, joyful, happy place we all yearn for. And so the name stuck.

Meet Our Makers

95% of The Wishing Chair products are conceived, designed and manufactured in India. 5% of our products are sourced from Thailand & Vietnam that specialize in high quality ceramics and cane. The items that are produced in India, are first imagined and proto-typed by our design team, at our design studio in Delhi. They are then manufactured at various workshops across the country, depending on which state has expertise in the material used (metal, ceramics, wood, glass etc). Workshops that we have chosen to work with are visited to make sure there are proper conditions with regard to work, hygiene, and safety, as well as in prohibiting any form of child labour, forced labour, or illegal employment. We also sell other brands on our website that we have curated in accordance with our quality standards, value pricing, originality, and design aesthetic. The origin of these brands vary; the glasses are made in Germany & Turkey the kitchenware in Germany though most other brands are home-grown.

Our Pricing

we work with one single goal: to offer our customers high quality creations at the most value-for-money prices. We have an inhouse design team and no intermediaries or distributors, which allows us to set the best price for you, while also rewarding the expertise of our producers across the country and their employees at fair rates. 95% of our items are designed and manufactured in India - and for prices to be truly fair, they must stay the same all year round. We do not levy huge mark-up margins on our products and therefore frequent discounts offered are not viable or sustainable! That’s why we rarely run sales or promotions. However twice a year, to honour women and mamas, we have a Mother’s day weekend sale, and a mini discount on International Women's Day. If however, you would like to get even better value on our products, join the TWC Perks, our loyalty program, where members rack up TWC cred and enjoy discounts, first-access, surprise gifts and our undying gratitude and love.

Our vision boards and subsequent product designs can be inspired from almost anything: movies, nature, food, illustrators we admire, art, fashion, book design and everyday objects

An Open House

From time to time, we organise meet & greets with the founders at our stores. Pls sign up if you would like to be in the list for the next one.
